i'm building a video editor

yo what’s up! it’s been a minute since i’ve written one of these lol.

so, you might’ve seen this tweet i sent out. in it i introduce this thing called eda. i show it off w/ a demo of me using it to edit jeffrey’s pfp so that he wears a red baseball hat instead of a black one.

and i got some pretty good usage on it, i had 93 people use it just 2 days after launching it on twitter (plus a $31 bill on replicate lol).

however, this is not why i started eda. i never wanted to build an image editing app, the idea behind eda started when i began using iMovie to edit my demo/launch videos more and realized that it wasn’t really enough.

i wanted to make those sick professional-looking launch vids you see on twitter, but i also didn’t wanna learn how to use more advanced software like final cut pro or the adobe suite (or pay for it).

i also realized that even if i started using these apps they would still not be tailored to the workflow of shipping stuff.

so i started working on this. i actually had no idea how to build a video editor so i started simply working with editing images first — and i wanted to build it in public so i launched the simplest version i could in one day. this is what you see me using in the launch tweet i was talking about.

but now i’m ready to show you guys what i actually want eda to be like:

i wanna make a video editor that’s easy to integrate into your workflow and just works. i want you to be able to take your screen recording, drop it in here, generate videos that complement it, edit anything you wanna change, and share drafts w/ your team.

the “simple“ editor you see here will be built to let you create those sick production vids with spinning logos and crazy transitions with just natural language, so that it doesn’t have to be hard. the “pro“ editor will be for teams that want to do things manually and have full control over their video.

if you think this is cool, i would super appreciate it if you could check out this landing page i built and drop some feedback in the comments below. most of my substack audience consists of builders, so ya’ll are the perfect people to validate this with. would you use a product like this? are existing solutions not enough? should i even spend time building this?

i know i would use it pretty much every day as i launch stuff quite often, but i wanna know what you guys think!

i really don’t wanna have a waitlist for this so as i build eda i will be updating the app that i linked to in the landing page. right now it’s super basic b/c i just started working on it, you can’t even edit videos lol. but it does let you generate 6-second video assets to add to your product demoes/launch vids.
